We have a student in 5th grade this year that struggled almost from when he was in kindergarten. He has displayed impulsive, disrespectful, and defiant behavior over the years and it greatly affects others in his class. He always showed signs of leadership, but he was unable to consistently display positive behaviors without regressing. The past semester, though, we do feel has been a turning point for him. His incidents of poor behavior are significantly lower (and essentially nonexistent). It does feel as though the continued investment in him is paying off.

There is a challenging student in my class that has a tough background. I have noticed small changes in his life since starting at our school. It also helps that the student is hearing the word of Christ at his new home and at school. The changes are tiny, but with love, prayer, time and God anything is possible.

When one of my students had finally excepted Christ then fell backwards and let him go. There were some things going on in this child’s life. Currently she has accepted Christ again and has made her life better.

I have a hand full of students (boys) who take nothing serious. As we learn about the word of God daily, and attend chapel every Wednesday, they think it’s just funny. I have seen during a devotional day and having a large class decision with students being serious and many prayers needed they would act out. Recently during a very deep lesson during chapel a question was asked. “Who needs God in their lives” All of those students stood. God is already speaking to them, they just don’t know it yet. I am waiting for that day when they all come to me and tell me they have accepted God in their lives.

I teach a high school leadership course where students are either elected or apply and are selected to participate. Each year, I can accept up to five incoming freshmen for the course, which is challenging since I typically have 15–20 applicants.
Three years ago, I interviewed an 8th-grade student for the course and distinctly felt the Lord leading me to accept her, even though there were more qualified candidates. Following that leading required both obedience and faith. Over the years, I’ve developed a close relationship with this student, but it has been a journey marked by consistent behavioral challenges, including issues with integrity and dishonesty.
There are moments when I question whether I should keep her on the team, as she often falls short of the expectations we set for leadership students to live above reproach and set an example for others. However, I hold firmly to the conviction that the Lord guided me to give her a place in the class. I continue to pray and trust that God is working in her heart, even if I don’t yet see the fruit of that work. I must remind myself to remain faithful and believe that God is using this class as part of His plan for her life.
