I often remind both myself and my students that my purpose is to “Set you up to succeed.” This statement speaks not only to their academic success but also to their restored relationship with God when they fall short. There is always space for repentance, as the goal of discipline is to restore a right relationship with God and foster a heart transformation, not just a change in behavior.

I make an effort to welcome students back in to the classroom after they have misbehaved and let them know I still accept them. Each day is a fresh start; God forgives and forgets their mistakes once they repent, and so should I.

I think it would be good for me to verbalize redemption more often – that we all fall short, and that Christ offers forgiveness to each of us.
