Teaching discernment equips students to critically evaluate information, distinguish biblical truths from secular views, and make informed decisions. This skill prepares them to navigate complex issues and engage thoughtfully with diverse ideologies while maintaining their faith.

Once they leave Christian schools, they often walk away from the faith. They need to see the difference between today’s prevalent worldview and how it opposes the Christian faith. Our students must be equipped to make informed decisions about what they believe and to choose wisely. Then they will not be deceived by what the world offers.

Ellen was spot-on about freshman seminar! If students are not told up front that they will sometimes be taught things in direct opposition to Biblical principles, and that it is ok to disagree with others (in authority) and identify when they are not coming from a Biblical perspective, they may start doubting everything they ever believed in when they get out into the world.

The world is becoming more wicked in the last days. Not only do students need to learn how to compare and contrast God’s word to every situation, but they also need to discern what to do about it. Knowledge is knowing what the Bible says. Discernment includes the wisdom of what to do with that information. Students need to know God’s word and hide it in their hearts, but they also need to know the Author of the Book in order to have the discernment of how to apply it to their daily lives.
