How do Dr. Ward’s definitions of leadership, ministry, and calling compare with your own?

Dr Ward gave clear and succinct definitions to leadership, ministry and calling. By her definition, calling is a God given conviction in my life’s direction. And as I response to God, whatever we do towards it is our ministry. And in the process of ministry, when we can have an impact on someone, we are a leader.

I never really thought about what leadership, ministry, and calling meant to me. But I usually described leadership as someone who is put to a higher standard to help guide and lead people in the right direction. Ministry as something we just do for Christ, and calling being something God “called” us to do and we do it. And that’s basically what Dr. Ward has stated and I agree with her. Dr Ward’s definition of leadership is, “an influence on people to move them toward a vision.” Ministry, “anything that you do with an eye toward Christ and for the kingdom is ministry.” And calling, “a God-given conviction about your life’s direction.” I fully agree with her views on these things which is nice to see.

When I was in corporate life, what not just sustain my motivation but kept me growing was this truth – God is my only employer
Now I am no longer in active working life, we never retire from being an instrument of God’s love, the call is the same, only the platform has changed.

I appreciate Dr. Ward’s clarification of what God’s calling actually is. So many times in churches, we’re made to believe that activities not related to church are not God’s calling or ministry.

Calling, is God-given conviction of your life direction. That helps define the understanding very well.
