No, I did not lose social support systems during the pandemic, thank the Lord.

I don’t think Covid injured my support systems deeply, I still connected with many of my close friends. However, graduating right before Covid began meant I had already just separated from my surrounding community on campus. Even though many were still involved in my life, some were not, and the pandemic only accelerated the distancing as friends graduated and moved on without the ability for me to visit campus. It was hard, but I am thankful for the connections that God strengthened through that time.

Although I did lose some opportunities for personal interaction (and I fretted over those frequent cancellations of group hiking because a spike in infection suddenly intensified governmental safety measures), I did maintain indirect contact with people through electronic social media. There was WhatsApp and Zoom, which allowed not only texting, but also audio and visual communication.

Actually, I lost my support system during Covid – 19 with the exception of my daughter, she stayed by my side. I stop spending quality time with my family and some of my relatives did pass away. Normally, we would have family gatherings at my house or one of my relatives’ houses. We would eat, drink, dance, sing and celebrate together as a family, but lately I do not even do that.
