What are some reasons why Christianity cannot be blended with other religions?

The most compelling reason why Christianity cannot be blended with other religions is that the other religions don’t have Christ. As examples, Christ offers us a personal relationship that can last into eternity, forgiveness of sins thus salvation, the Holy Spirit within us to help guide us in our daily lives, the possibility of finding meaning in our lives, and the example of the crucifixion to help us understand our own suffering.

The prime example he gives of the “unity of religion” argument is the blind man and the elephant example. This assumes that all religions are only looking at one element to define all of humanity. None of which claim to do so. In the case of Christianity, the truth of God and His ways are revealed in the Bible, and Christ is the only way to salvation. These are inconsistent claims with Islam and Buddhism and Judaism. They cannot be blended together as they often contradict each other.

The teachings of Christianity are uniquely different from other religions. Among different religions, the worldviews as to what ultimate reality is are different, even contradictory. They say different things about what God or deity is, about how the human condition is, about the afterlife, about what we hope to attain, etc. There is no doctrinal core common to all religions. It is illogical to blend what is contradictory.

The reason Christianity and other religions cannot be blended comes down to the problem of evil and suffering. Dr. G sites several examples of the problems for all religions and wordviews and everyone but Christianity offer no hope. We all experience suffering but with Christianity God gives us hope in Jesus and lament for our suffering. The Bible and Jesus declare the only way to heaven is through Jesus and if other religions don’t believe in Jesus as God’s Son who died, was buried and rose again for our sins then they have no hope and cannot blend with Christianity.
