The Torah anticipates a future king following possession and settlement of the land. It also identifies a number of future enemies of Israel, including Moab (Moabites), Amalek (Amalekites) and Edom (Edomites). In 1 and 2 Samuel, Saul and David are each said to have conquered all three of these peoples. These first two kings will be the only Israelite kings in history to defeat all three of these peoples.
