Wrap-Up

In some ways Jonah was given a very simple message—only a sentence long. But it was a very difficult message to deliver. He was asked to leave his ethnic and theological comfort zone and share good news he didn’t want to believe, and didn’t want to share. Although it’s easy for us to laugh at the comical figure who’s trying to run away from God, what about the deeper message about God’s love for the whole world?—even for people not like us.

Did anything in this lesson give you insight into how God has worked in your own life? If it made us uncomfortable, isn’t it reassuring that God is relentless in getting to Jonah’s heart and making it more like His own?

Well, that concludes our first module on the prophets. Next, we’ll leave the Northern Kingdom of Israel and head south to Judah. We’ll hear what the prophets there were saying to people who thought they could rest assured in God’s promises—simply because of who their ancestors were. As you can imagine, it won’t turn out to be that simple.
