Think for a minute . . . what might comfort and vengeance have to do with each other? God’s people wished for His vengeance on the arrogant, abusive Assyrians. And that would bring comfort to them. But this all came after a long delay. And that’s just one of the challenges our spiritual ancestors faced.

Another challenge came along with the horrors of war: Assyria deliberately humiliated Israel on the world stage. What will the prophet Nahum say to a people who endured both suffering and shame?
