We have our pastors focus most on redemption

Because we focus on the Messiah most of all.

Because mostly in the sermon, the preacher described the geography in just a little portion. And most of us were taught to pay attention to the teaching or the words not the place and culture of the ancient Israel.

Perhaps we don’t look into how that geography affects and impacts each writer in scripture and their intent for using that geography in their words and word pictures. Our understanding may be different from the original writer.

For me, my focus was on his teachings and how I could be a better Christian. Setting a good example for others to follow – geography was not on my radar at all.

    Amos 5:5-6

5:5 Do not seek Bethel! Do not visit Gilgal! Do not journey down to Beer Sheba!

For the people of Gilgal will certainly be carried into exile; and Bethel will become a place where disaster abounds.

    5:6 Seek the Lord so you can live! Otherwise he will break out like fire against Joseph’s family;

the fire will consume and no one will be able to quench it and save Bethel.

Psalm 91:4 He has covered us with His feathers and under His wings we will find refuge.

Knowing how a mother bird protects her young with her own body makes this Psalm easier to understand and gives a beautiful picture of God’s protection for His people.

The mustard seed and how it grows….the lilies of the fields. How we thirst for living water.

We live among trees and water.

I forgot what human geography relates to.

On our property we have wild foxes and coyotes. Also chickens and next door many cattle.

The area where I live in Holmes County, Ohio, has rolling hills and clay-filled soil. People here farm these hills and life is simpler due to our Amish friends that live among us (they choose bikes and horse-drawn vehicles instead of those with motors). Our area is covered with beautiful green grasses and colorful flowers throughout the spring, summer and fall months.

Physical geography would be the hills and hollers of my location, the human would be the canal that shapes many of our streets and the mineshafts that are hidden away under my feet. Natural history is the rock formations as well as the cave systems

    Physical Geography: hills and valleys.

Human Geography: farming processes; public transportation.

    Natural History: rabbits, pine trees.
