I am involved in sports ministry. I feel like I am doing a good job in engagement and persistent, and can grow in preparation and patience. It gets frustrating to not have the access and credibility that I want. But I can focus on continuing to prepare myself and being patient in the waiting, and being grateful for the relationships I have and the access I do have. I resonated with the idea that while I may want more access I need to approach that with humility and patience.

Yes, I am currently active in sports ministry. As I stated in my last answer, I feel preparation is key for any successful ministry. I also feel that Persistence and Patience are extremely important. I believe these two go hand in hand. In the movie the Field Of Dreams the quote is “If you build it they will come.” It takes time, persistence, hard work and patience to build. Build what? Relationships, Credibility, Trust with your community. As you build it.. they will come. If only 1 shows up take that opportunity that God has given you and make the most of it.

Yes I am currently involved in Sports Ministry . I truly enjoyed hearing the PEPP. I believe Ive been implementing some of these areas already. However I know I can sharpen and enhance them. Particularly in the area of Engagement , making myself more available in the off-season and making that a routine. Being intentional about making it known I am available outside of the chapel time to connect, have coffee, etc. Also expanding my reach to more than the players but also being available for their families and coaching staff . Finally reminding myself that it is not “important to be seen but available”. I see the power of being just “present” but also their is even more value in being available.

Yes, I currently serve as the Chaplain for the Football Team at the University of Delaware and I put the four success principles to use every day because they play a part in being a Pastor. The biggest challenge was making the transition from being a former, highly accomplished athlete and being seen, to now… playing the back in order to make sure that the Players, Coaches, and Family’s spiritual needs are met. PREPARATION is huge for me, because if you are not prepared; you are not disciplined in your meditation and prayer life then you render yourself ineffective.

I am currently involved with sports ministry. I serve as the team chaplain for football and basketball and as a campus minister for the broader athletic community. The four key success principles help to resurface some of the tribal learning I’ve accumulated in my short time in these roles but provides greater framework and clarity. I believe this course and the pursuit of certification will help with the preparation and build on my effectiveness with engaging, persisting, and establishing a systematic and patient approach to serving these communities and individuals in a way that will ultimately point them to Jesus and the Gospel. My immediate take away is to BE AVAILABLE. I will be more intentional to be present in the spaces (allowed) so they know I am available.
