Tell of several ways in which today’s culture affects the way you view the Bible.

We live in a highly scientific age today. This has convinced many to conclude that science is the only lens through which to view reality. This has led many to accept a naturalistic view of reality; totally ruling out the supernatural. This has caused many to view the Bible as urban myths rather than the words of a supernatural creator.
Relativism is another feature of our culture that has affected the way some view the Bible. Since the culture is highly relativistic, many have rejected the Bible since it insists upon objective standards of truth. The Bible is viewed with suspicion and completely rejected because of the cultural push towards relativism. On a personal note, these aspects of the culture have allowed me to hold more firmly to the teachings of the Bible. They solidify the truth that the Bible is the only source of objective and unchanging truth. -
Today’s culture does not affect the way I view the Bible, but the culture does affect the way unbelievers view the Bible. I believe the Bible is the inspired inerrant Word of God, but many people in our culture think it is a book of ancient mythology.

I have been a Christian for all of my adult life and learned from the very beginning that it is the inspired, inerrant Word of God. My belief is that Scripture is true. When the culture makes claims against the Bible it causes me to seek answers to prove the Scripture is true rather than doubt it. A biblical stance is not always popular but it worth the time and effort to develop your own belief in the Bible.
I think the church culture provides a greater challenge than culture at large. For example, some of the family discussions we have, i.e., election, predestination, full immersion, sprinkling, what is a day, billion of years, etc. It is not comfortable when one group thinks they are superior because of their interpretation of Scripture. This makes me not want to share exactly what I believe. The affect is to continue to pray, read and study.

In today’s culture, certain acts, lifestyles, and even the simple way we live, have been deemed normal, or at the very least acceptable. When we dive into scripture, these acts, lifestyles and the simple way we live, have been addressed. They are not acceptable, and should not be considered normal. Therefore, as we read the Bible, and look at “modern” issues, we should expect to find them addressed in scripture. We then have God’s Word guiding us to lead our congregations to what is truly acceptable by God and what is not.

Today in this world I have noticed that depending on what culture people are brought up in affects the way they view the Bible. Especially in the biblical world view culture where different denominations will try to give and teach their own views of the Bible in certain topics.
