I feel relieved. The focus on the core of the problem and honesty means we don’t need to get caught up in the constantly evolving issues of people’s daily problem, but we can have compassion for those issues while addressing the root problem of their priorities and God.

I am feeling hopeful. Being aware of our natural leanings and motivations is helpful in being able to intentionally turn away from them and lean into the ones that God cultivates in us to be equipped for soul care: soul thirst, wisdom, curiosity, etc. We can’t really be effective if our self need is overshadowing those I mentioned above.

I think I am most excited to help paint the vision for others. After listening and hearing others out, it is really cool to help fan their flame and to see them shift their focus to the soul. I need to remember to take this slowly and to fully hear out others though before trying to take them somewhere else internally.

I feel a sense of anticipation, and also total inadequacy. I have to minister to 30-60 people per day, with brief conversations that lead to deeper conversations. Some of these conversations are quite serious, and the people are both believers and nonbelievers. I know only the Lord can empower me, and the concepts Dr Crabb states match the desires of my heart.

I have mixed feelings as I anticipate talking to people with these concepts in mind. On one hand, I find myself wishing I would have taken this training years ago, since I would now do many things differently during my pasts conversations. On the other hand, I am excited to see how the Spirit of God works in people’s lives (and in my own) as I apply these newly learned principles of SoulCare. I’m already noticing striking differences in my conversations over this past few weeks, compared to conversations in the past.
