I try to be a “teacher of redemption” by replaying the scenario where my students needed to respond in a more polite manner or help them reflect on what they did wrong to another student. I sometimes work with ESE students where I need to be a “teacher of redemption” constantly because they sometimes can’t control their emotions. I love to remind myself that God understands them and loves them, so I need to give them the same grace He gives me.

Yes, with the help of God. I strive to be honest and repentant when I make mistakes. I try very hard to not bring up past sins unless they start to become repeated. I encourage students to approach their peers with repentance when they sin and encourage students to forgive their classmates. I strive to focus on Christ’s forgiveness over the sin whenever possible.

Yes as a result of God’s work in my life. I have witnessed condemnation and the negative impact it has on a believer’s/ unbeliever’s relationship with the Lord.

I do my best in my course to not hold mistakes of a student above them like a label. In most cases, I make sure to give each of my students a blank slate when they come to my course each day. They will always have an opportunity to demonstrate better behavior one day over another. I think teachers can sometimes be very labeling and hold “grudges” against certain students over behavior. This is not a redemptive mindset.

Yes, I talk to my students about mistakes and how they can redeem themselves from mistakes and how to learn from their mistakes.
