Are you a “teacher of redemption” in your classroom? Explain.

Yes, in solving math problems, we all make mistakes. I never embarrass a student who give an incorrect answer, but I encourage the student to try again. I give students the opportunity to take another version of a test or quiz after giving individual feedback on the first assessment if a student does poorly.

I teach my students that we all make mistakes and sin every day, but we have Christ standing up for us to receive forgiveness. They will always find a forgiving environment in my classroom, but I encourage them to find wisdom in all they face in order not to make the same mistake again.

Absolutely. Children need to know how to deal with making mistakes and that we are designed to make them. “Tomorrow is a new day” is a phrase I use often.

I pray every day that I am. I want my students to know that I love them, and I want the best for them. Yes, with that comes the responsibility to correct them when needed. After disciplining a student, I have them pray to God and ask for forgiveness. If they won’t, then I ask them if I can pray with them. I try to make it clear to my first graders that it is not them I am disappointed with, but the behavior. I try to make it clear that I love them, not the behavior (sin).

Yes I try to every day though I’m sure that there have been times I’ve fallen short of this. I do this both by teaching about redemption through Christ and by living it out in the way I approach my students especially when discipline is invovled.
