I point them to Christ and tell them that it doesn’t really matter what they have done in the past, but who they are looking to for life. Our good works flow out of what God has preordained for us, and we should walk in them. When we fall, we cry out to Jesus, just like Peter did when he was sinking in the waves on the Sea of Galilee. I also allow my students ‘do overs.’ When they mess up on a test or assignment, I ask them if they would like to try again. I am not sure if this reflect Christ redemption, but I see it as a form of grace.

We discuss sin and how it separates us from God, but we also discuss how Jesus made a way for us to approach the throne of grace with confidence. As often as opportunities present themselves I like to talk about God’s mercy. I think students just need help seeing those times where God shows his grace and mercy to us. Modeling and requiring students to practice forgiveness and treating one another as image bearers is another way to be a person of redemption. The cost was high for Jesus so we need to love one another.
