I allow my students to evaluate the situation and see where their behavior and actions fit in the situation. When they are able to figure it out and come to me with reason or help redemption is highlighted. As far as my students knowing that this is called redemption, I have not made them aware of that, but this will be something I will work on for this coming school year.

Not only do I teach what redemption is and why it is important, but I try to model it through my actions and reactions with the students. When students respond inappropriately to a situation I will give them a chance to “redeem” the situation by redoing the scenario in a way that is more pleasing to God. Then I will explain that God is a god of second chances, forgiveness, and redemption. There is nothing we can do that God can’t redeem if we allow Him to.

I talk to them about the why and how it is wrong. I encourage them to talk about why things they do are wrong and how to ask for forgiveness. We sing songs about God’s love, grace, and forgiveness.

I believe redemption leads to growth toward conforming to the image of Christ. We know that we are all fallen, which means it is redemption or judgment. I think there are limits based on the well being of the whole classroom, but I like to show grace with the hopes it leads to redemption.
