I look for opportunities to show grace to my students. I have been greatly impacted by God’s extension of grace to me. I have also been extended grace by my teachers. I feel this is an important aspect of modeling the gospel in my classroom.

Yes, I always let my students know that they can resubmit tests or quizzes to improve grades. If a student is willing to put in the effort, I will work with them to make sure that they can pass the course. The student’s grade should not rely on one bad grade or missed opportunity and should reflect the work of the entire year or semester.

I trust that my staff does practice this in the classroom. I liked the suggestions to make time for students to consider salvation.

I think that I teach redemption. I have a few older student who feel worthless because of mistakes they have made in their lives. I point them to Christ and tell them that it doesn’t really matter what they have done in the past, but who they are looking to for life. Our good works flow out of what God has preordained for us, and we should walk in them. When we fall, we cry out to Jesus, just like Peter did when he was sinking in the waves on the Sea of Galilee. I also allow my students ‘do overs.’ When they mess up on a test or assignment, I ask them if they would like to try again. I am not sure if this reflect Christ redemption, but I see it as a form of grace.

I believe I am a teacher of redemption. I share often with students how humbled I am that Christ would love me enough to pay the price I owed for my sin. We discuss sin and how it separates us from God, but we also discuss how Jesus made a way for us to approach the throne of grace with confidence. As often as opportunities present themselves I like to talk about God’s mercy. I think students just need help seeing those times where God shows his grace and mercy to us. Modeling and requiring students to practice forgiveness and treating one another as image bearers is another way to be a person of redemption. The cost was high for Jesus so we need to love one another.
