Yes, I do my very best. I try to start each day anew, if not before the next day.

Yes. Only with the Lord’s help because sometimes it can be challenging to recover and start fresh or persevere in well-doing.

I certainly try to be. When behavior issues arise, I make sure to address them but then ensure that the student understands that I am not mad. They have another chance to set things right and change their behavior. I often point out my own mistakes and how I have made attempts to correct those issues. Academically, I make myself available several times a week for students receive help on content.

yes, Students should be shown grace and be forgiven. We are constantly given grace and forgiveness from God

Nope. I tend to hold grudges. I remember the 10 times that the homework was not turned in after the 10 times class time was given to complete it. I don’t forget that a student drew pictures while I was teaching, then asks for help during lunch period. And I get very aggravated when that child’s parent insists that I give her the test questions before the test. Ok. Maybe I’ve spewed enough frustration.
When a child does truly need help I help without hesitation. And when a child has squandered time I help too, but with far less joy. And I accommodate “that parent” to the extent that I think is a bit more than far enough.
There are times when a traumatized student has my full focus and attention. I’ve learned this through working with kids in the justice system, who mostly arrive there through family mistakes or neglect. After working with these kids for a long time I’ve learned that there are those who really need help and I do as I’m able. And there are kids who need “the ruler” as Ellen Black mentioned. No longer do we whack, I suppose, but boy … maybe those were the days!
