We begin by observing because we can’t interpret or apply what we don’t see. After we have observed, we interpret and try to draw conclusions about what the writer intended us to understand by what he wrote. Lastly, we apply those interpretations to our own lives.

You must observe first or else you cannot interpret or apply – you will have no basis. You cannot apply until you understand what is being communicated aka what the writer ‘meant’.

With careful observation you can find details that will help you interpret that passage of the Bible. When you understand your interpretation of a passage it will be easier for you to apply that interpretation to your life.
