Observation draws out the details, allowing for a more potent interpretation. Interpretation draws out the meaning from the details of the text, allowing for a clear application.

When we truly observe what is going on in the text and interact with it with questions and understanding what is actually being said and shown to us, only then can we interpret the meaning. So much of the Bible builds off of what was previously said, and unless we notice these parts and see how they are connected and what they mean together, we cannot interpret the full meaning. Additionally, we need to understand the cultural references and how readers would have interpreted the text. If we do not fully understand the text, we cannot live it out in our lives, or rather, we will be too timid to live out what we don’t quite understand or we we will be living out a lie with false confidence.

1. What do I see? deeper dive into what you are looking into
2. What does it mean? does it make sense; do I understand the relevance
3. What does it mean I should do? how does it apply and how should I apply this?

By observing the intentions of God in the book, we then interpret the meaning to our lives and act on that meaning

When reading scripture, it’s important to make observations on what I am reading. Next, I need to interpret and apply what I have read into my everyday life.
