At work one time I was asked. How do we know that the Bible is true? Then we talked about the artifacts that was found Dead Sea Scrolls and other biblical objects and scriptures that were found. Then I pointed to some verses in the Bible. And I also told about a little bible history that I knew how to church started and all about that. Eventually the conversation went nowhere and I wouldn’t want to sit there and argue with people.

Many a time I have to explain to my children, both teenagers, why I don’t believe in same sex relationships. They tell me I should accept it because it’s “normal.” But I know in God’s eyes, it is still wrong.

Being a full time pastor I’m always asked to explain the salvation of Jesus Christ and the reason of my belief in him.

This lesson truly hit home with me. I was raised in a Christian environment, both of my parents were ministers. And I, like a lot of preacher’s kids, couldn’t wait to leave home, so at my first opportunity, I was on my own. As our lesson said, we as children grow up believing what we were taught and yes, I believed there was a God and that Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead. We all learn that in Sunday school, we don’t pay too much attention to the pastor’s message for that day.
When I was younger, I was in training to become a Child’s Advocate, one who speaks for the child during court hearings. One of the scenarios in our mock court procedures course was the foster caring for a child by a homosexual couple.
If you believed this was okay, you were to go to one side of the room. If you believed differently, you were to go to the other side of the room. I found myself standing alone. I could hear remarks such as ignorance, stupidity, she doesn’t know any better.
I couldn’t defend my reasoning. I didn’t know what to say, besides God created man and woman to be married.
Today’s lesson has taught me the importance why we should be able to respond to questions and situations regarding our Christian faith. I thank God for this lesson.
