When I was in high school. Even though it was a Christian high school, being a “born-again” Christian was not the norm or looked at in a negative way. I wasn’t a preacher but living my life with kindness and love, giving God glory for everything was a great witness to many of my classmates.

There were many times when I was first looking into Christianity where my family challenged me on my fragile beliefs about Jesus. I wasn’t firm in my faith in Christ and I would often become discouraged or angry when I would have arguments with my family. However, as I have learned more and gotten older I have become a lot more patient and resilient. I am looking forward to growing in my understanding of God’s word.

When I was working in the prison system, fairly fresh out of college, one of the seasoned inmate elders who worked for me, daily would grill me on the Word, from the Word, of the Day! He was relentless, his nickname was the “ROCK”. I could still tell you his name. Today, he is Hawaii ministering with a radio show. That was nearly 25 years ago. He challenged me daily, to recite and reveal what God was doing in my life, he never cut me slack. He wanted to know I was a legitimate follower an not a pretender. He wanted to know he could trust me, as his boss, as a Christian, as a person who was charged to care for the well being of the inmate popuation. We need more people like the “Rock” keeping us to the fire of seeking the “ROCK of OUR Salvation!” It made me a better person.

Yes, I encountered a religious cult group representative who wanted to debate not only my Christian doctrines, but also my pastor. I was not prepared to respond in a strong, respectful manner.
