    Proverbs 3:5&6

These verses were some of the first verses that I had to memorize as a child. Over the years I have come to rely on these verses as a reminder that my trust and my security comes from Christ alone. I trust in Jesus because of His blood that was shed for me. He is my rock and I can fully rely on Him in every situation I encounter. When the stresses and tragedies of life come, it’s easy to become anxious and begin working things out in the flesh. This verse reminds me not to lean or trust in my thoughts and actions, but to give it to God knowing He has a perfect plan and will direct me where I need to go.

Proverbs 27:1, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”

It is said that today’s world is a VUCA world – volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. That makes it difficult to analyse or predict a situation so as to make the right choice. COVID-19 is one of those unexpected, unpredictable factors that changed the world irreversibly. Prov 27:1 laments this uncertainty, which is elaborated in James 4:13-16. This means that we are not to boast of past successes and current welfare. We know we enjoy it by the grace of God, but we are humbled to realize we do not know about tomorrow. It means that we make plans for tomorrow, but we commit them into God’s hands. It may mean that we make provision for tomorrow by saving what we have today.

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, put Him first, and He will keep your paths straight.”

This Proverbs is one of our home’s favorites — daily application in all of life’s situations.

Prov 29: 5 “Whoever flatters a neighbor is spreading a net for the neighbor’s feet.” Flattery is lying and dishonest. It is used to gratify the self esteem of another. If flattery is dishonest then it is manipulating. It is trap setting. But we set a trap for ourselves because we risk being exposed with the words we have said. Not only this, but when we are dishonest with others, we do not truly connect with them and everything becomes superficial. Flattery is lying which is the opposite of the truth.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.

This is a very applicable proverb as it talks about trusting God, surrendering your will, your life, everything to Him and He will straighten the way you should go.
