I believe the lecture is talking about a person in the group feels comfortable to take take in the various activities of the group. I sense of belongings and a voice that will be heard.

When members feel connected to the group, they participate in discussions, actively contribute ideas, and seek answers from the group.

A small group, by nature, is a team of people and not just a bunch of individuals. In order to not just function as a small group, but to also thrive, the team leader is responsible to help the individuals see beyond themselves. To help them see common ground and even differences between them. The leader is to connect the small group in their common purpose, which in my case is to grow in their relationship with God and as followers of Jesus.

“Connection” here means understanding how they can work together in order for the team to actualize the mission and goals of the team.
