The challenge with a particular student is supporting in the space of staying focused on work. Student is often distracted by using phone to scroll through social media. I am still waiting for a change in the student’s life.

Several years ago I had a student who was having difficulty with reading and behaviors in the classroom. with a lot of patience and listening, he eventually was convinced that I truly cared about him and his interests. One morning, the topic of Easter came up. I was able to explain the gospel to him and he was insistent that he wanted to become a christian. That summer he was baptized. We also saw evidence in the classroom of his heart change of going from being the class clown to sharing how God had changed him and how now he wanted to do what was pleasing to God.

I have been discouraged when I see a student come to class, but choose to not engage or do the work. I just keep trying to engage them in different ways and eventually, they come around and reengage with the material and class.

I had a student who was so full of anger and rage that experienced a life changing transformation. Another student prayed and prophesied over him and the Lord did an instantaneous miracle.

I had a 4th grade student who struggled with math. I allotted extra time to work one-on-one with the student and made several recommendations to her mom and dad. It was like talking to a wall, and all the while the student wasn’t getting any stronger. Despite phone calls, emails and meetings, nothing changed. To this day, she is now failing in more subjects than one. Makes my heart ache for the student.
