They communicated that they were not ‘motivated’ to study and give there best in school. After listening I highlighted that God has created them and set them apart for a task they were uniquely created to accomplish. While we might not know what that assignment is at this time. Failure to give God their best was not about motivation, but maturity. After praying with student we parted with a ‘knuckle bump’. Thankfully that student’s effort in course has radically turned around and their engagement in the subject looks to be growing daily.

When she started in my course, I saw the behaviors the first couple weeks but then I started to see a change in her. Her mom told me she was seeing changes at home and the student was happy and excited to come to school, something her mom had never seen before.

We look to what Scripture says, but they still mostly cherry pick from Scripture, often taking it out of context, to try to justify their actions in one area, while completely disregarding it in relation to their behavior. It is discouraging, but I know that other teachers, administration, and their parents are all joining in to pray over them and work together to try to help them grow.

In helping the instigator see the other parties in the conflict as uniquely made and loved by God, it helped this student understand the gravity of his own behavior. I have seen a change, and I have seen that when he steps near the line of poor behavior again, it is becoming easier to redirect him, reminding him of what we’ve been talking about.
