Some of the more discouraging moments for me have been when students have opened up about spiritual problems near the end of their time in my course. In some cases, the conversation has continued to some extent after graduation, but it can be difficult to accept that “still waiting” state — and the uncertaintly about the ultimate outcome.

During my tenure as an educator, I have had students that have challenges both at school and at home. I often pray for them when they come to mind. I may never know if they made a decision for Christ, but have faith that God wiil continue to draw them to Himself.

This student was not using their full potential for God and doing their best in school. They recently went to college and I see a drastic change in their life. All the things we as teachers invested in this student, you can now see. Their attitude has changed.

Most recently I had a conference with a student who was failing the subject being taught. They communicated that they were not ‘motivated’ to study and give there best in school. After listening I highlighted that God has created them and set them apart for a task they were uniquely created to accomplish. While we might not know what that assignment is at this time. Failure to give God their best was not about motivation, but maturity. After praying with student we parted with a ‘knuckle bump’. Thankfully that student’s effort in course has radically turned around and their engagement in the subject looks to be growing daily.

I have a student who came in the middle of the school year. She was having a difficult time in public system. The teachers labeled her as a behavior problem. When she started in my course, I saw the behaviors the first couple weeks but then I started to see a change in her. Her mom told me she was seeing changes at home and the student was happy and excited to come to school, something her mom had never seen before.
