She was downcast and angry much of the time and generally very hard to reach. At the time, I did not realize all she was going through at home. Fast-forward two years: I am now teaching at a new Christian school in town, and she is one of my sixth grade students. She has recently been adopted by a lovely Christian couple who faithfully took her to church and enrolled her in our school. Prior to her sixth grade year, she was living in a chaotic non-Christian home with no Godly influence in her life. She is now in her third year with us and has grown so much in Christ. We are still dealing with issues here and there, of course, but the light in her eyes spreads joy to those around her. Christ in her is evident and infectious.

I watched as the year progress his attitude begin to change during the year and it was not for the good. That was a tough year for both of us. He not only struggled in all of his courses and he was trying to push God as far away as possible. There were days I did not want to go to school and talk to him. The school year continued on and we both made it. Did he accept Jesus as Lord that year? No, it was not until he was in his early thirties that he accepted Jesus. That year I kept thinking is it worth all the trouble? But when you walk into a church and see someone like this young man leading worship and he bounds off the stage to say thank you for putting up with me. It was worth it all.

The students showed more interest when I partner them to work together. I am hoping this year the students come with an open mind and a better attitude to learn the scriptures.
