I have been discouraged by a student’s progress who hasn’t been trying. They have not been putting forth effort because they think they can’t do it.

I had a chair thrown at me recently. It seems a little extreme but it happened. Between the behavioral issues and the educational struggles I never quite know where this student is. There were changes put in place and it’s gotten better. This student struggles with memory work and usually acts like they are indifferent. My husband dropped off items for a celebration recently. He asked my students for verses in trade for the goodies he was leaving. He’s ornery like that. He called on this little one and they crumbled. A very tearful declaration that they don’t get that in or put forth the effort. It was probably a favorite moment for me right before the break. Not the tears but knowing the student realized the need for work in that area.

Recently, a student was found cheating on an assignment. His excuse was that he felt desperate when he realized he didn’t have time to finish on his own. He shows surface repentance, yet still sees his dishonesty was justified by circumstances.

Some of my seniors are in study hall. They are close to me, so I can hear some of the things they say, so many times I have call them on that, go through it and they say they get “it”.
Yet they keep saying the same stuff I called them for in the first place. It is so disappointing to feel like just as soon as it gets in, it gets out of them.
More so when they profess to love Jesus, yet their actions show a lack of the Holy Spirit. -
Changes can be both good exciting and disappointing. It’s not the change, but how you react to the change.
