Throughout my years of teaching, I have encountered moments of discouragement with students’ progress in academics and behavior. I have also witnessed these students grow and change in the years as well with the continuous hearing of the Word of God & showing God’s love to them.

I had a student that was unwilling to complete assignments (reading and writing). As I worked with the student and learned of their background I understood their circumstance. I began to teach with a different approach (loving, patience) and the student began to blossom and become less discouraged.

I am aware that my student has the ability to succeed and it is discouraging, however applying what God has placed within me to teach my students is how I move forward. I leave it in God’s hands and take the time to communicate with this student. I learned that taking time to listen to my students helps me to better understand them.

I am still waiting and praying for progress in one particular student’s life. I will continue to keep this student in my prayers. I am confident that our Lord will instill a need to change and grow in this student’s mind.

Sometimes I have seen students regress in skills or behaviors, and it can be alarming. I have to remember that it is all in God’s hands – I can pray, I can teach, help, and encourage, but ultimately I am a small part of the students’ journey and that is ok.
