Small infractions are dealt with a warning/demerit system. Multiple demerits lead to detention, each Wednesday afternoon, after school. This is indeed effective.
Larger infractions that go against our school policies can result in dismissal. But each student has the opportunity to go through a “restoration” program, and be readmitted the following school year.

Stating expectations, stating what they did. Telling them why following expectations is a benefit, and asking them to adhere to expectations.

There are some rules that have very clear-cut consequences. These are the best as the student knows exactly what the rule is and what will happen when they don’t follow it. It’s not a favoritism thing or because that teacher is too strict. There is no emotion tied to it. These clear-cut boundaries have served students the most. There is still grace and forgiveness, but the consequence is there.

Our school has a curriculum called “Friendzy” for K-8 students. It allows our elementary and middle school to teach the fruit of the Spirit and all be on the same page.
