I really try to follow the Love and Logic methodology. I have a tendency to talk to kids when they make poor choices and ask them to stop. I ask them, respectfully and truthfully, if they need a break and a reminder about good choices, I can send them to our Dean. This is what I would say … but I’ve never had to do that.

One of the discipline policies in my classroom is the use of the students cellular phones. Many teenagers have the temptation (the fall) to use the cell phone in course. The students know they are not allowed, The students are to keep their cell phones in their backpacks and in silent mode. At the end of course, I will praise my students for not falling in this temptation.

All of our discipline polices are connected to Scripture. When a child needs to be redirected, we reference our Code of Conduct in connection with Scripture.

One discpline policy we had was making sure discipline was less by having a structured classroom and curriculum. Also, correcting bad behavior by modeling good behavior and have students demonstrate or correct to the appropriate behavior. Not only that but teaching self responsibility and owning up to mistakes.

All of the discipline policies in my school center around correction, not punishment. We try to correct students instead of focusing on punishment. It is effective but it is hard to walk that line. Sometimes although not meaning to, consequences can turn into punishments for even the best intentioned teacher.
