One is to address the negative behaviors, but then to have restorative discipline that gives us time to encourage and give scripture on why rules are important. The other is to give praises to the positive behaviors. Encouragement also helps our walk with God.

In the high school setting, keeping track of the students is challenging. “Where are you going?’, is probably the most asked question. But, we have been put in authority over our students and it is important to know where our students are. I think of God going after the sheep. Teachers, like parents, should model God to these young ones., and make sure they stay in safe perameters.

The students earn a “star” for good behavior. They are recognized by the course as a good Christian and individual.

I really try to follow the Love and Logic methodology. I have a tendency to talk to kids when they make poor choices and ask them to stop. I ask them, respectfully and truthfully, if they need a break and a reminder about good choices, I can send them to our Dean. This is what I would say … but I’ve never had to do that.

One of the discipline policies in my classroom is the use of the students cellular phones. Many teenagers have the temptation (the fall) to use the cell phone in course. The students know they are not allowed, The students are to keep their cell phones in their backpacks and in silent mode. At the end of course, I will praise my students for not falling in this temptation.
