I have the Golden Rule posted in my classroom for students to remember to treat others how they want people to treat them. I refer to it when a student may have done something mean to another student and we talk about if that student would want someone else to do it to them? They usually say no and it usually helps them understand. Another policy is I try to not embarrass students in front of the class if they need to be corrected as a way to show them love. The personal discussions are usually a lot more effective.

One policy that I have in class is being respectful to one another especially if someone feels like their asking a dumb question. The consequences of disrepect is dicipline that the class agreed to.

Students in my classroom who are on board with rules and help establish order are encouraged to help those around them to do the same. This has been very effective, and teaches good leadership skills at the same time.

Each month we focus on a different fruit of the spirit. If a child misbehaves and requires more than 3 reminders, we have a “fix-it-ticket” that they must fill out. It allows the child to show ownership of their behaviors and what they may need to change with strategies.

I set clear expectations from the beginning of the year and we discuss how we will be respectful and responsible. We all make mistakes and we can work through that, but we are still going to have consequences.
