My discipline philosophy is all about respect- respect yourself, respect me, respect your classmates. I do think I apply this in a nuturing way. The hardest one to enforce is respecting classmates – kids can be unkind and it’s frustrating.

My discipline philosophy is that rules should be communicated clearly and then upheld consistently. With clear parameters and expected responses, students can feel safe in their environment as well as learn how to behave. I am always open to hearing the student’s point of view about a situation, but I require them to obey first and then approach me with respect, just as I would give to them.

I am working on my discipline. I often give too much grace. I like that she spoke about pruning and its importance for students and that discipline is an act of nurturing the child. That is something I am working on as an educator.

I set up the rules and the consequences if the rules are broken. I also reward those students that are following the rules. I also ask them to think about their behavior before they do it. I ask the students who are we honoring with our behavior?

My discipline philosophy is to set up clear guidelines and expectations on the very first day of school. The consequences for breaking those guidelines is also clearly outlined. Then, the first student, regardless of who it is, and the first time the guidelines are broken receives the established consequence. This shows the students that you are serious about your expectations and guidelines and sends a message that you will follow through with the consequences. At times, I do struggle with this but I feel I am getting better.
