My discipline philosophy is tender and firm, loving and serious-minded, and equal to all students. I strive to create a classroom environment that balances warmth and structure, where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to grow.

I believe that discipline and nurturing are not mutually exclusive, but rather complementary aspects of a holistic approach to teaching. By setting clear boundaries, expectations, and consequences, I provide my students with a sense of security and stability.

At the same time, I prioritize building strong relationships with each child, taking the time to understand their unique needs, interests, and challenges. This allows me to tailor my discipline approach to meet the individual needs of each student, ensuring that they feel seen, heard, and valued.

My discipline philosophy begins from how the students are welcome to class. In our school, high school students move from class to class when they have lessons. They are always on a single line and wait at the door to be welcomed by the teacher. It’s a routine. They are taught to be self-organized and orderly in taking turns. They are always celebrated when doing things, the right way. Positive reinforcement is key in the classroom.

Through my daily routine, I’m able to teach my students on ways to be properly organised. I nurture to correct students and make them learn from their mistakes. I adopt positive reinforcement consistently to shape the attitudes of my students

I monitor the behavior in the classroom, and these kids have really been great this year. There was one set of kids I had to remove from my class because they were a distraction to another kid – causing him to act up. The extra kids were teacher aids for another classroom so they didn’t have to be there. I think I enabled my student to have better behavior by removing his temptation. I am a new teacher so I know I can work harder on discipline.

When something goes wrong in the classroom I try to make sure I call out the inappropriate behavior and then discuss what should have happened instead. I also find that bringing scripture up while disciplining students is very helpful to them and understanding where they went wrong. It also allows everyone involved to walk away from the situation feeling loved and cared for.
