Describe your discipline philosophy. Do you think you are disciplining in a way that nurtures your students?

I work with students 1:1 in their choices. I work to help them develop internal motivations for their behaviors.

Students know the expectations early on and the natural consequences that occur when they break the expectations. However, I focus more on a “filling your bucket” approach where students are praised for their positive behavior.

I generally do not have to discipline. I have a good rapport with the students, they know that I love them and they also know that I am firm. If there is a behavior that needs correcting I will usually privately discuss the issue with the student. If the student does not correct their behavior, I will move to a more formal “write up.” I very rarely have to write a student up.

I believe that a child gains security from a classroom that is well managed. If I discipline a child, I do it privately and try to listen and understand where they are coming form while at the same time making my expectations known in a kind and resolved way.

My philosophy involves correcting the behavior and pointing the student back to the right path. I make sure the students knows that I am correcting out of care for them. That I am trying to show all the students that everyone is equal and there is no special treatment.
