I speak to the student that needs to be discipline outside of the classroom. I ask what is going on? I am aware sometimes students actions can be due to hunger, or personal situations at home etc. I try to be understanding, but also let them know that their actions were not okay.

I speak with my students regarding the issues and I address them with God’s love. Showing students there is a better way to handle the situation. Explaining that our actions have consequences. Needing to take responsibility for our choices and how to do that.

I believe that we must discipline a child keeping in mind God’s love. We must understand the problems of a child and try our best to help the child. I will talk to the students about the problem areas in their studies and be consistent in following up with the students providing help when necessary. I would be honest with the student when I see something wrong and correct the student in a loving way.

I try to be very clear as to what the classroom expectations are, and that we are there to have a positive learning environment and it is not fair for someone to disrupt that environment for the rest of the class. So I will address individual issues that come up, or sometimes as a class we will revisit the expectations. I like to allow for students’ differing personalities and quirks, but within a framework of we are there to learn.

My discipline philosophy centers around the following thought, to be an authority. One must be under authority. Therefore, in my classroom, we will support and follow the rules as outlined by the school when an error is made or an action that is not becoming of our conduct and standard, a student must be disciplined. My philosophy of discipline always includes room for Grace however, we do not want to receive the grace of God in vain, and the student must be able to convey to me that they have learned the lesson and will make necessary changes to avoid the infraction again.
