No , I did not give up any of my spiritual disciplines. I think I had more time during the COVID pandemic because I worked from home. The work load was less than if I was in the building. I had time to attend all church events and practice the spiritual disciples I need to practice. I think I prioritized all that I need to accomplish so it was just which one do I need to do now with all this time on my hand. I did everything online and didn’t have to go outside. This time was when I could pray more and encourage others such friends, relatives and anyone. My experience was very different from other essential workers.

At first, I was consumed with trying to work from home. I had to develop new ways to reach out to our program participants and staff through technology. This eventually gave way to less structure in my day and more distractions to get off course. I began to put off my daily bible reading. A health crisis caused me to renew my time with God. I started listening to online teaching and reading for encouragement. Covid has impacted my family in so many ways. Social isolation has caused depression and frustration and strained our interactions with each other. We are still trying to find new jobs. I now make time for God’s word first thing each morning and listen to podcasts when I’m travelling.

I didn’t give up any spiritual disciplines during the pandemic. I was an essential worker which helped me keep my normal routine. However, seeing so much suffering in the world, I felt the need to pray more frequently and spend time studying Christian books, particularly on suffering theology. I also made a point of ringing those people I knew who lived alone as well as keeping in touch with friends.
