Did you give up any spiritual disciplines during the pandemic? If so, can you see or feel the results of no longer having that time? What can you do to make time for spiritual disciplines?

At first, I was consumed with trying to work from home. I had to develop new ways to reach out to our program participants and staff through technology. This eventually gave way to less structure in my day and more distractions to get off course. I began to put off my daily bible reading. A health crisis caused me to renew my time with God. I started listening to online teaching and reading for encouragement. Covid has impacted my family in so many ways. Social isolation has caused depression and frustration and strained our interactions with each other. We are still trying to find new jobs. I now make time for God’s word first thing each morning and listen to podcasts when I’m travelling.

I didn’t give up any spiritual disciplines during the pandemic. I was an essential worker which helped me keep my normal routine. However, seeing so much suffering in the world, I felt the need to pray more frequently and spend time studying Christian books, particularly on suffering theology. I also made a point of ringing those people I knew who lived alone as well as keeping in touch with friends.

No, I did not become less spiritually disciplined. I continued to do Bible study at home and watch services online. Our group of friends, and my wife and myself, spoke via Facetime. This technological way of staying in touch was a God send.

No. The church I attended made us wear mask and we still had our service.
