I didn’t lose my social support system, it shrank tremendously. I learned who really are the true pillars of my social support system. The loss included family, friends, coworkers, and church friends. Those who remained were faithful, reaching out every day praying with and for me, helping me to maintain my sanity. What I perceived as my former support system has not been restored. Reframing the concept of support system, I am choosing to keep my social support system small and limited to those who have been most reliable.

I developed new support systems. I don’t remember having strong support systems before the pandemic.

I didn’t have a support system before the pandemic so I didn’t have one to lose. I am currently working on trying to build a support system.

During the pandemic, I felt alone and a bit sad about my brothers and sisters from Church not reaching out to me. However, the Lord taught me the importance of being intentional. I started contacting people and discovered that most people I contacted felt the same. I began to pray with others over the phone, joined a Zoom bible study, and started a Women’s Discussions Group on Zoom with others sisters from Church.

I was fortunate to have family in the area during the pandemic and had regular calls and even visits when the symptoms were no longer present. Although church, and distant family was less regular in our lives, we were able to take advantage of online church, and tv church. The Lord used this time to convince me that it would be a good time to shift gears and retire from driving truck. COVID opened the door for me to do something I had wanted to do before, but the situation was not right then, but now the workplace had changed, to the point that it became a perfect opportunity for persona, and occupational change.
