I vividly remember failing math in my O’levels and having to retake the exams. This time, my parents arranged for a different math tutor, and everything changed. He not only helped me understand math but also inspired me to love it. With his guidance, I passed the exam with an A. That experience made me realize that my initial struggle with math stemmed from the teaching approach of my previous teacher. Today, I hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education and am passionate about helping my students discover the joy of learning math, just as I did.

Mr. Morin was my 7th-grade science, 11th-grade Bible, and 12th-grade Physics teacher. He was kind and would tell us stories about his life. We read devotions from the Bible in class and prayed. He was like a father to me and he walked me down the aisle at my wedding.

I remember my tutor from my penultimate year in high school, whom I affectionately called Mummy TP. She taught me the fundamentals of English with so much love and enthusiasm. I recall her gentle voice as she explained the skills and strategies I needed to learn. Every time I went to her house for lessons, I felt her warmth and care, and I always looked forward to my visits.

Mr. Odofin, my grade 5 mathematics teacher. He was very firm and friendly. He took his time to explain contents, and made sure you understand by all means. He did not relent or get discouraged despite student’s poor interest in mathematics. Today the impact has helped me in many ways in teaching my students in class.

My 3rd grade teacher was one of my favorite teachers in elementary school. He taught us 63 different wildflowers and taught us how to play chess. Looking back, I loved that I learned everything that was required of me, and then some. Mr. Sutherland never stopped at what was required, but found ways to further engage us in our interests. He was incredibly strict, so not everyone enjoyed his class, but the students that took advantage of the structure of his classroom benefitted greatly. Not only this, but all of the field trips in his class were hikes. We would go on a hike and then he would have us name all of the wildflowers that we saw along the way. He was a great teacher because he challenged our interested beyond the classroom.
