Discuss a teacher who had a positive influence on your life. What did he/she do that was influential for you?

I can remember my 3rd, 5th & 6th-grade teachers & my JrROTC instructors. Their passion and love for their students helped us grow.

I had a math teacher who had a great positive influence in my life during my high school days. she took time to be patient and explain the concepts with which I struggled. She was very understanding and showed true Christian qualities.

Mr. Yonce was my 6th grade teacher and he taught me many new things that I still remember to this day = math tricks, we did reports on topics of interest and presented them, he had us all get CPR certified, and our class put on a big musical theater production at the end of the year so we all had to try out, learn our parts, manage our time, learn how to sing, create the set, etc. He also saw the potential in me and gave me a large part in the play, which was unexpected.

Mr. Krogstad was the music and theatre teacher. I struggled academically in some of the core classes but he instilled confidence in me and let me know that learning can be fun. The music dept instilled confidence in me, and that would later translate into other disciplines as well.

Mr. Newman, my English teacher freshman year, allowed me to prove myself as a student. At the time, I was suffering from undiagnosed ADHD, and no other teacher to that point took the time to see my love for literature and the hurdles I faced daily. His belief in me set me on the path to becoming an educator.
