My fifth-grade teacher’s wife passed away while I was in his class. He showed us his humanity. Kids need to look at teachers as not super human but human, and how we deal with our lives.

My kindergarten teacher, though planning a wedding the same year she taught me, was very involved in my life as I had dealt with my parents divorcing and then both remarrying. She was emotionally available for me. She would ask quesitons about how I was feeling, yet push me eduationally at the same time.

My seven grade math teacher believed in me so much that at the end of the school year she gave me the seventh grade math award. I became a math teacher because of her.

My third grade teacher Mrs. Cirasoll paid enough attention to realize that every time she turned the lights out for a movie, that I would fall asleep. She contacted my parents and they figured out that it was a medication I was on, that not only made me fall asleep but that I was lethargic. After that she worked with me to catch up on subjects I had missed. She was very aware and kind to all her students not just me.

My father was a teacher. He “helped” me with my homework by asking me questions until I figured things out for myself. He taught me to slow down and think carefully.
