Discuss C.S. Lewis’ statement, “If God had granted all the silly prayers I’ve made in my life, where would I be now?”

God always provides what we need, but not necessarily what we want, to train us in righteousness. That which is granted is to fulfill His will in us, not to satisfy our desires. Prayer is our privilege to align our will with His will, not the other way around.

During times of immaturity I have prayed for things I probably would never be able to have or comprehend. Things of the flesh would not have pleasing in his sight.

Although my prayers may seem real and very important at times when we look back at those prayers we can put them into perspective and realize they were silly or insignificant in the whole scheme of things. Can see that God has my best interest at all times.

I love this quote and can see myself in this – on hindsight I am so grateful that God did not answer all my prayers.

A wise and true statement! As I’ve matured and moved through the seasons of my life, those things that I thought were needs (or desires) don’t appeal to me now. And, to think if God had been a genie I’d be stuck with a bunch of stuff I’ve no use for whatsoever.
