Discuss C.S. Lewis’ statement, “If God had granted all the silly prayers I’ve made in my life, where would I be now?”

I think back to prayers I prayed for certain relationships and if they had been answered according to my wishes, I wouldn’t have the relationships that I have now and I may even be in detrimental situations. When praying it is helpful to bring all of your hopes and dreams but end with acknowledging that God’s will is best.

God is merciful, slow to anger, and always helps us understand Him better. For our own good, some of our prayers go unanswered, or perhaps He is testing our faith when He is silent about our problems.

I think this goes back to relationship. Nothing is too small to take to God, but we have to do it with the right motives. God is not a genie that will grant our every wish, but taking the small and the big things to Him and trusting that His ways are best, that will build our relationship with him.

That the Lord (God) know far more what we need and knowing this will be part of his will. Knowing that we may never understand fully the reasons for Gods decision.

God asks us to trust Him always. Even if it hurts or if we don’t understand or if we want something different we have to believe in is sovereign will and plan. His plans are to prosper us and not to harm us–plans to give us a hope and a future.
