I do. It’s vital because it impacts everything we do and why. If there is no redemption, why would we worry with discipline other than behavior modification. There would be no reason to teach or model, just force certain behaviors that are more compliant and better for the group.

It’s important to realize that students are sinners in need of grace and love (and yes, correction) just like I am. By fundamentally understanding the idea of redemption, I can better model Christ to my students.

I believe I do understand the biblical wiredview of redemption. Having received that kind of forgiveness, having been redeemed, we can teach our students about God’s love by showing those same qualities when students make mistakes or act out. We teach them about God’s love for us by showing that love to them.

Biblical redemption means that Christ offered me a spiritual contractual exchange, my sin for His righteousness through the sacrifice of the cross. It by grace only, His favor extended out of love, that I am restored to a healed relationship with my Creator Father, will full rights of eternal inheritance as His child. He bought me out of slavery and I live in the freedom to choose the path of righteousness. He transformed my heart to love His will and to despise what separates me from Him. This gives me contagious joy that I can share with my students.

Yes. Redemption is happening all throughout the day as there are moments you are able to come alongside a student, teach him/her valuable truths from God’s Word to help them through situations, and help him/her understand Jesus’ redeeming love. God’s greatest desire is for us to be restored and have relationship with Him so if all teachable moments point back to that truth, the student understand they DO have value and are loved – even when a mistakes are made or unwarranted behavior is chosen.
