extremely important; what a child learns when young he/she remembers forever. I may not know verbatim, but I know I can find it. And in times when I am lost I will stubble on a verse in my mind and be able to pick up a bible and find it. If I didn’t learn when I was young I would not have that toolbox

Of course it’s important for children to know God’s word. Beginning with the simplest, God is love, to the Lord’s prayer, to the wonderful accounts of the Old Testament mighty acts. Children will remember the security of the God who walks in the fiery furnace and keeps the lions mouths shut, who can lead through the sea on dry land. God is mighty and caring, protector, and healer. And he hears when we cry, our God is near all the time. What child would not need to know this?

Yes, absolutely. God’s Word is for everyone, including children. God has spoken to children through Scripture.

Yes, it is important for young children to memorize scripture. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” The world will throw many things are our young children and students. If they memorize scripture, they will be able to recall the words of God in the hard times. Like memorizing an emergency phone number, memorizing scripture helps us in the dark and hard times, in the middle of strife, to remember who we are and who God is and that we are valuable to him. Just like Jesus in the Wilderness, we will not be fooled by the ways of the world if we take scripture into our hearts.
