Yes, children are capable of learning scripture at an early age. It is especially important for them to know who they are as a child of God and grow in their authority as a believer. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

It is crucial for young children to know Scripture. Their brains are like sponges, they absorb everything, so teaching them Scripture while they are young is the best time for them to learn it. They can utilize what they’ve memorized whenever they are tempted or facing troubles to help them overcome it. They can also utilize what they’ve memorized in their everyday lives as they live for Christ and glorify God through their works.

I’m mixed on this because it largely depends on the developmental age of the child. I wouldn’t give the whole of the Bible to elementary and I’m skeptical about middle school as well, especially 6th grade. The content of the Bible is very explicit for those ages. General themes, symbols and stories are sufficient I believe. After that, I would think it would be more appropriate for students to know Scripture.

I do think it is important for young children to know scripture. My daughter is 2 and has already started applying God’s word to her life. If she sees others hurt, she will go and pray for them.

Knowing Scripture from a very young age helps to shape character and serves as foundational truth when they are faced with conflicting ideologies later on in life.
